Photo.ME: Reasons your Passport photo code may not be working
If you’re having trouble entering your code on the official Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) website, follow these steps. Your code contains 22 characters, so a small typing mistake could cause errors.
Your code contains 22 characters, so a small typing mistake could cause errors.
Step 1 – Check for Confusing Characters
Pay attention to characters like 1 & I and 0 & O.
The number 0 will have a slash (/) in the middle to help identify it as zero. It is also narrower and shaped like an oval. The letter O, on the other hand, is more circular, wider, and has no slash in the middle.
Step 2 – Verify the Code Format
The code consists of 22 characters distributed across 6 boxes. Example: 1PMI96EN0602190937Y702
Box 1: Always 1PMI
Box 2: Machine code (e.g., 96EN)
Box 3: Date (e.g., 0602, always numbers)
Box 4: Time the photo was taken (e.g., 1909, always numbers)
Boxes 5 & 6: Random mix of numbers and letters
Step 3 – Check Upload Issues
Our servers securely upload your photo to the DFA. This process requires a stable internet connection.
If the signal at the booth was interrupted, your photo may not have uploaded correctly.
If your code still doesn’t work after 48 hours, please contact our support team.
Step 4 – Check for Expired Code
Digital photo codes are valid for 6 months only.
Due to GDPR regulations, photos are permanently deleted from our servers after this period.
If your code has expired, we cannot retrieve the digital photo or issue a refund.
You can still use the printed version of your passport photo for your application.
